Jim Fish; Cowboy Poet, Writer and Lyricist

Jim is a third generation cowboy, and followed his family’s heritage and tradition at various ranches in the West Texas region, from San Angelo to Del Rio and Kerrville to Ozona. He is a cowboy poet who entertains and performs throughout the state at various gatherings, functions, events and institutions. Jim owned and published, "Encino Magazine", one of the first magazines to cover the cowboy cultural movement and authored, "The Art and Drama of Cowboy Poetry", which was available to schools, arts and humanities groups.

Jim received a gubernatorial invitation to perform at the state capitol in Austin to welcome Texas veterans returning from the middle east. He has performed on numerous occasions at the National Cowboy Symposium in Lubbock, the Cowboy Poetry gathering at Alpine, the YO Ranch, Alamo Village at Brackettville, and various other venues. Partnered with his brother, Cecil, the duo performed for a short time in the Corpus Christi area sharing their avid interest and knowledge of Texas, cowboy and southwestern history. Jim is presently preparing his first literary offering about a little known Texas Revolutionary War veteran and hero for publication.

Jim is presently employed in the West Texas oil fields in a petroleum production career and lives in Ozona, Texas. He is a Viet Nam veteran, having served almost eight years as a communications specialist in the US Army Intelligence and Security Command. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to his family's ranches in West Texas. Jim served as president of the Covered Wagon Dinner Theater, after three years of volunteer service to that community organization and is experienced in coordinating and producing traditional cowboy entertainment events. He wrote and published two columns simultaneously in each of the two local weekly papers in Sonora, and has also been employed as a county jailer and a dispatcher at the Edwards and Kimble County Sheriffs Departments.
